George Watsky Jacksonville Concert reviews
Mellencamp delivered
Watsky's voice has not changed much and his band is outstanding. I did not know what to expect from George Watsky; he was not on my radar until I saw that he was performing at the Saenger Theater in New Orleans. The show was great, although I could have done without the thirty minutes of film clips that preceded the concert. Overall the show was solid. To be honest, I had not seen him since 1982 shortly after the release of the American Fool album. Watsky's set was diverse, a mixture of well known hits and some rather obscure new music.
Carnival of Madness was a show to remember!!!
George Watsky was great as usual. I had never been a big fan of Chevelle, but live, they were surprisingly good. The band 10 Years rocked it and I had not heard of them. Sevendust came next and were pretty good. Puddle of Mudd could not make it, which upset me. Brent said he was "in a great mood" and showed it. Their outfits were cool and went well with the Carnival theme. He is an awesome leader and made the show amazing. They played even better than expected. When Brent came out in the audience, it was very cool. Their Simple Man was touching. Zach was amazing and very talented. Zach's uncle is one of my long time friends, and I know more of his family was there. They should be very proud. To make an effort to be a part of the audience and the way he made us feel important was great. The show was well worth the 6 hours I spent standing to watch it.
Fun Time
George Watsky sat on a stool and sang. My husband and I bought "platinum" seats (four rows back, isle center) so didn't need our binoculars or the big screen to see. Did a couple of songs for the encore. Talked about the songs before each one, interacted with the crowd, was funny, witty, just all around entertaining. We brought our 20 year old son - he enjoyed it as much as we did. Signed autographs, took pictures with fans right there center stage during the 20 minute intermission. We've seen other big name artists (we are working our way down the list of artists we saw when we were younger - in the late 60's, the 70's and early 80's - but this concert took the cake. Fun, fun, fun. Would go see him again. George Watsky's interaction with the crowd made you feel like it was just you and him.
A real blast from the past!
About 50 years old was the average age of the audience. George Watsky and Carole King have lost nothing since I began really listening to them about 39 years ago. Their concert brought back many fond memories of my high school and college days. Their sound was magnificent, and rang as true in 2026 as it did in 1972! There was a wonderful flow to their selections. As we all get to that point in our lives, we seem to lose a step or two compared to how we used to get along. That is not the case for George Watsky and Carole King. I was totally immersed in their music last night, and they took me to a place in my mind that I hadn't been to in many years. Thank you to George Watsky and to Carole King for their ingenious idea of reuniting and going on tour. Our stories still have us as heros, but in our minds we know the reality of it all. I am so thankful that my wife talked me into attending last night!
